Stories of Impact by Alumni and Donors

Students and faculty reflect on a community-engaged course on aging, death and dying, where students volunteered in a local hospice as part of their learning.

Mike and Nancy McLelland's investment in Lyman Briggs carries forward a lesson Mike first learned as an LBC undergraduate: Education is about more than mastering a subject. It is about learning how to think, how to solve problems, how to learn from setbacks and how to use what you have learned to make a difference.

For one Briggsie, John Morrison, graduation was amplified by an emerald-hued secret: it was the day he could finally reveal to his roommates, friends, family, and professors that he had secretly been Sparty for three and a half years.  Once he walked across the graduation stage in those iconic green and white boots, he would never be Sparty again.

Why it matters: The first two graduates of the program, Lauren Grasso, D.O. and Kate Vinkemulder, D.O., reflect on their experiences in the accelerated program from LBC through medical school.
