Ready to Join?
Lyman Briggs College is a limited enrollment residential college. We welcome about 650 incoming first-year students each fall, ensuring a small-college, residential environment for our first-years. Here's how you can join us.
Apply
Select Lyman Briggs as your major on your Michigan State University application. Your application will be reviewed and processed by the MSU Office of Admissions. Apply by November 1 for maximum university-wide scholarship consideration.
We do not have a secondary application process. Any student that has been admitted to Michigan State University qualifies to study at Lyman Briggs College.
Secure Your Place
If you are admitted to MSU and have Lyman Briggs listed as your major on your application, reserve your place in the incoming Lyman Briggs class by paying your acceptance fee as soon as you wish to commit to MSU and LBC. Spots fill on a first-come, first-served basis and our 650-student incoming class is typically filled before May 1 each year, which is National College Decision Day.
Note: If you are part of the LBC class, do not change your major from Lyman Briggs during the admissions and orientation processes, or you will inadvertently remove yourself from our residential college. After the first week of classes, you can select a more specific LBC major.
Waiting Pool
Once we hit 650 students with "Lyman Briggs" as their major, who have paid the acceptance fee, we move to a waiting pool.
If you pay your acceptance fee after 650 students have, then you will be placed in our waiting pool and in a different science-focused college at MSU.
As some of our 650 spots open up throughout the spring and summer, our recruiters will pull students out of the waiting pool.
