Scientific & Creative Exploration of England’s Lake District
led by LBC Science and Society faculty member Georgina Montgomery and LBC Biology faculty member Gerald Urquhart.
Experience field biology with history of science to understand the development of the field of ecology and the role that scientists, poets, and farmers played in the development of the discipline.
Students will spend the program in the Lake District National Park, a stunning landscape rich in history, agriculture, and wildlife and the inspiration for poets such as Wordsworth. You will spend two weeks in the Lake District studying ecology and agriculture, while also exploring the interactions between the environment and poets such as Wordsworth and writers such as Beatrix Potter.
Throughout the course, students will be synthesizing scientific and historical readings with hands-on experiences, conducting field work, conducting archival research, and engaging in artistic workshops.

Study in the City of Lights: Paris, France!
On this unique study session in Paris, our themes will be Comparative Health Policy and Louis Pasteur and the Rise of the Germ Theory in Nineteenth Century France. We will visit many sites relevant to these themes, such as the Museum of Medicine, the Museum of Medical Models, and the Museum of Arts and Crafts. Paris, a vibrant city of art, music, fashion, and culture, will serve as the backdrop for our studies. Students will leave Paris with a clear understanding of how healthcare is delivered in France and Pasteur’s role in introducing the world to the ideas of germs and vaccinations!
