Imagine Doing Better, a talk featuring Paul J. Fleming, Ph.D., M.P.H. author and associate professor, University of Michigan School of Public Health

On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, we will welcome author Paul J. Fleming to the MSU campus to speak about his vital new book Imagine Doing Better: Why Policies Backfire and How Prevention Thinking Can Change Everything. This book gives readers a hopeful roadmap to a future where all communities have the resources and opportunities to thrive.
Sometimes, it can be challenging to imagine doing better. That better future is obscured by the present-day wars, hatred, disinformation, dehumanization, and violence we are living through. It can make it seem as if we are on an unchangeable path toward a dystopian future. But, collectively through our imagination, reflection, and action, we can make a better world possible.
