Scholarships for Incoming First-Year Students (Freshmen)

The following scholarships were designated for entering freshmen in Lyman Briggs College. They are awarded to high school seniors who are enrolled for the upcoming semester as a freshman.

Brian Falzon Book Scholarship

Required selection criteria 

  • Entering freshman
  • Will be residing in Holmes Hall
  • High school grade point average of 3.4
  • Graduating from West Bloomfield High School

Paul Edward Boswell Endowed Scholarship

Required selection criteria

  • Entering LBC freshman
  • Maintain grade point average of 2.5 or above
  • Out-of-state student
  • Student must apply for renewal

Preferred selection criteria

  • Out-of-state student from Texas

Is the scholarship renewable?

Yes, for students who stay in LBC and re-apply.

Cass Technical High School Alumni Scholarship

Required selection criteria 

  • Entering freshman
  • High school grade point average of 2.5 or above
  • Graduating from Cass Tech or another Detroit-area High School, if any
  • Student must apply for renewal

Is the scholarship renewable?

Yes, for students who stay in LBC and re-apply.

Dr. Frederic B. Dutton Scholarship

Required selection criteria

  • LBC student

Preferred selection criteria

  • Entering freshman
  • Financial need

Is the scholarship renewable?

Yes

Matson Family Endowed Scholarship Fund

Required selection criteria

  • Entering LBC student
  • One recipient
  • Student must apply for renewal

Is the scholarship renewable?

  • Yes, renewable for three years, provided the recipient remains in good academic standing

Scholarships for LBC Students Planning to Study Abroad

Studying abroad is a valuable, life-changing experience for many students. Some of our donors have given funds for students to have these high-impact learning experiences. These scholarships are awarded on a different timeline than other LBC scholarships. Complete applications by the advertised due date.

Matson Family Expendable Scholarship for Education Abroad 

Preference will be given to students with demonstrated need, as determined by the MSU Office of Financial Aid.

Strong scholarship applicants must be LBC students who show a record of leadership, service, and community engagement

David and Gretchen Cantor Education Abroad Scholarship

Strong scholarship applicants are Briggsies who show a record of leadership, service, and community engagement
