Biography

I teach LB171L currently and hopefully additional courses in the future. My research revolved around evaluating the effects that hydrogen bonding interactions have on important reactions in enzymatic systems. For example, reducing dioxygen to form new C-O bonds, or reducing groundwater pollutants (nitrate and perchlorate) to non-toxic products. Due to the complicated enzyme environment, we can prepare inorganic model complexes that have similar primary coordination environments but either contain or lack H-bonding donors. Then, by carefully comparing their reactivity towards small molecules, we can better understand the fundamental effects that H-bonding donors provide in enzymatic reactions.
