The Collaborative Experiential Learning Laboratory: A Makerspace

For Lyman Briggs College students and instructors and Holmes Hall residents

Location: Holmes Hall, Room W-10 (lower level of West Holmes)

The CELL supports creative, interdisciplinary work that is both playful and profound. It is equipped with a wide variety of materials, from a 3D printer to board games to VR headsets and glue sticks. It was designed by students from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds, to provide space and materials for students to learn through developing ideas and making prototypes.

Accessing the CELL Makerspace

  • Stop by open hours. Times for Fall 2025: Thursdays, from 12:30–4:30 p.m.
  • For individual visits, students and instructors can sign out a key in 3-hour shifts at the West Holmes Service Center. In order to sign out a key, you must first meet with Dr. Record for training and fill out this form agreeing to the conditions for responsible use of the space.
  • Instructors, to reserve a time for your class, please email the CELL Director, Isaac Record at irecord@msu.edu.
