Science and Society

The Science and Society major offers an expanded understanding of science. Students learn not only how to practice science, but also how the field of science has evolved over time, how scientific norms have been established, and how to impact science in their own unique way. The Science and Society field fosters science communication skills and critical thinking.

The Science and Society major is unique and customizable to students' academic interests. Students choose from a wide array of courses for their degree, with the guidance and support of a Science and Society faculty member.

Science and Society graduates will have the background to mediate, advocate, and make a difference in how science not only operates but also is integrated into society.

For more information about the Science and Society Major (or Minor) or related courses, connect with the Science and Society Major/Minor Coordinator. The Coordinator meets with Science and Society students to find the right Lyman Briggs faculty member to advise them in their particular area of interest. The coordinator also shares information on the major/minor with faculty, acts as a liaison between the Science and Society faculty and LBC advisors regarding the major/minor, and communicates with the LBC Office of Student Success staff regarding course substitutions for non-Science and Society major/minors.
