Scholarships at a Glance

Below is a list of scholarships and financial awards available through Lyman Briggs College, categorized for easier viewing. To find out more information about a scholarship, click its name. All LBC students will receive an email when it is time to apply, with most scholarships awarded in spring for the fall semester. The email will include a link to the application. Please note that not all scholarships are available every semester.

Paul E. Boswell Scholarship
LBC first-year students 3.4 (high school)

Order of selection priority:

  1. incoming students from West Bloomfield High School 
  2. financial need as determined by the MSU Office of Financial Aid
  3. those living in Holmes Hall
Fall Semester Brian Falzon Book Scholarship
LBC first-year students

Awarded once every four years: financial support given to one student, to follow them each academic year for the duration of their Lyman Briggs degree.

Matson Family Endowed Scholarship
LBC sophomores, juniors, or non-graduating seniors 2.5

For those studying to be scientists and mathematicians in non-medical or healthcare fields, who have financial need determined by the MSU Office of Financial Aid

Applicants must provide career goals and articulate the anticipated impact of the scholarship.

Howard and Joan Hagerman Endowed Scholarship for LBC Biology

Current LBC students Preference given to students who have excelled in LB physics courses. Determined by academic standing and financial need as determined by the MSU Office of Financial Aid Paul and Gertrude Parker Endowed Scholarship
Current LBC students 3.0 Financial need as determined by the MSU Office of Financial Aid; demonstrated potential for leadership for promoting the importance of the work of women in STEM fields. Eligibility is open to all without restriction or preference based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, sex, or other protected personal identity. Sophomores, juniors, seniors majoring in the biological or physical sciences

Jane Smith Elliot Endowed Scholarship
Current LBC students Preference given to those majoring in STEM fields. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated potential for leadership in promoting cross-cultural understanding; ccontributes to the intellectual and cultural enrichment of Lyman Briggs because of life experiences, overcoming significant obstacles, or who have exhibited leadership skills in the face of adversity as indicated in a written statement. Eligibility is open to all without restriction or preference based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, sex, or other protected personal identity. Jennie Orr Thomas and Daniel Thomas Scholarship for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
LBC students going into their senior year Two new completion scholarships are available for funding students during the 25-26 academic year. Eligible students will be incoming seniors who have completed ~90 credits by the end of SS25, be in good standing, and have demonstrated financial need.
