Session 0: Exploring Lyman Briggs

Interested in joining a science- and math-focused living-learning community at MSU?

Lyman Briggs College is a residential, undergraduate, science-focused learning community dedicated to innovative and inclusive teaching, research, and engagement with the sciences in their diverse human, social, and global contexts.

We offer students the opportunity to pursue the scientific understanding that the world needs right now, in a supportive community with small classes.

Lyman Briggs students build strong foundations in science through courses in the following areas:

  • biology
  • chemistry
  • physics
  • math
  • writing and research

LBC students also take a sequence of courses on the history, philosophy, and sociology of science, also known as Science and Society, from an introduction in their first year to several courses in their third and fourth years. These courses help students think critically and examine how science and math fit within everyday life.

But one of the best parts of Lyman Briggs College is the community. First-year Briggs students live in Holmes Hall, along with other science- and math- minded students. Holmes is where you find LBC classrooms labs, staff, advisors, and faculty offices, and a dining hall with convenient retail options. Students are surrounded by supportive people and provided an environment to thrive.

If you are interested in becoming part of the college, feel free to explore this website, and email recruiter Jacki Dotts at lbc.recruiting@msu.edu.
