On Friday, February 7, from 3:00-4:30 in Holmes Hall, Room C-104, Isaac Record, faculty member in LBC's Science and society Group, and Prudence Djagba, assistant professor and visiting scholar in LBC, will discuss the uses and ethics of AI in higher education, in a talk entitled, "Is AI Helping or Hurting Your College Education?"You are invited to this timely discussion!
About the Speakers:
Isaac Record is a teaching professor at Lyman Briggs College, Michigan State University, where he is the Founding Director of the Collaborative Experiential Learning Laboratory (CELL). He teaches courses in philosophy of science, science and technology studies, and critical making. He has an active research agenda investigating how technology affects what we know. Initially, he focused on scientific instruments and computers in nuclear science. Currently, he is investigating the circulation of knowledge online and exploring uses of technology in the classroom. His research seeks to situate our epistemic circumstances within a background of values, capabilities, and material and social technologies. He has a PhD from the Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology, University of Toronto.
Prudence Djagba is an Assistant Professor in Lyman Briggs College at Michigan State University and a research fellow in applied mathematics. His research focuses on AI in education, option pricing using reinforcement learning, and recursive polynomials. He received a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Stellenbosch University and holds a Master’s degree in Mathematics from the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), South Africa.
