We are excited to announce that staff member Sarah Evans-Cain has won the Jack Breslin Distinguished Staff Award, one of the most prestigious awards given to Michigan State University employees. Evans-Cain has served as the Administrative Coordinator for the LBC Student Success & Advising (SSA) Team since the fall of 2021, having previously served in the Neighborhood Student Success Collaborative since 2016.
Six support staff members across the university win the award each year based upon their displays of excellence, positive attitudes, exceptional contributions in their units, and the value they bring to MSU. The award is named after Jack Breslin, a student leader, honored athlete, administrator and advocate who personified “Spartan spirit”. Since the creation of the award in 1978, 276 recipients have been named, with honorees receiving $2,500 and a citation.
“I’m so honored to be recognized with the Jack Breslin Distinguished Staff Award,” says Evans-Cain. “It is an amazing feeling to have colleagues that I admire, admire me right back. My LBC SSA team and our students make my job a pleasure. I couldn’t be as successful without their support, lessons, guidance, and encouragement.”
Award recipients must serve 5 years at the university in a support staff role or an approved affiliate of MSU. They are nominated by fellow faculty and staff members. Colleagues of Evans-Cain praised Sarah’s remarkable work ethic and dedication to her position as an administrative coordinator.
“I have been honored to work with some amazing people at Michigan State, but Sarah’s sense of humor, mixed with her insane organizational skills, make her the glue to the entire Student Success and Advising team,” says LBC Assistant Dean Niki Rudolph, Evans-Cain’s supervisor. “Sarah’s commitment to making this college a wonderful place for students would make Jack Breslin proud.”
