BIOGRAPHY

Erica T. Holt is a historian of medicine in modern China and Taiwan. Her research focuses on birth workers and their role in the transformation of the medical landscape in East Asia. By examining how professionalized birth workers were introduced to rural areas by state initiatives, she highlights changes in relationships between people, the state, and medicine. She teaches the history of medicine through a global lens, including pluralistic medical paradigms in order to introduce students to the varied approaches to healing throughout history.
