Ceremony: Senior Class Speaker

Loreta Prenaj, from Okemos, Michigan is the LBC Student Commencement Speaker. She is graduating with a human biology major and a minor in bioethics. She is a member of the Honors College and received the MSU Board of Trustees’ Award for earning a cumulative GPA of 4.0 throughout her college career. Loreta has been deeply involved in Briggs, serving as an Undergraduate Learning Assistant (ULA), a Briggs Ambassador, an Undergraduate Research Assistant, and peer mentor.

Ceremony: LBC Alum Commencement Speaker

Abbigail Tumpey, MPH, Vice President for Institute Communications at Georgia Tech, brings more than two decades of crisis communication leadership at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Most notably, Tumpey led CDC's communication efforts during pivotal outbreaks such as the COVID-19 pandemic. A recognized health influencer, Tumpey credits her time at Lyman Briggs College for sparking her interest in public health.

For students maintaining a 4.0 grade point average throughout their undergraduate careers. 272 total awards were given in Spring 2024, and Lyman Briggs had 45 of them. 6,849 undergraduate students are graduating from MSU this Spring. LBC represents ~5% of graduates, but ~16% of the MSU Board of Trustees’ Award winners.

Peer Mentors

Peer mentors are matched with new LBC students to receive mentoring during their first semester in Briggs. They help their mentees navigate their first semester of college by hosting group events and one-on-one check-ins, and by facilitating group chats.
