I am a former Lyman Briggs Student (Class of '90) who has returned to teach here. As a graduate of Lyman Briggs, I feel I have a unique connection to the College and its students. My research focuses on tropical rainforests and their inhabitants. I teach the LBC 144 Organismal Biology course on campus and two study abroad programs, Tropical Biodiversity and Conservation in Panama and Rainforests and Reality in Nicaragua. I also serve as system administrator and webmaster for LBC.
My interests combine research on the natural environment with applications of information technology. I am currently doing research on Poison Dart Frogs and Tropical Rainforest Regeneration, and am developing a project on the Paleoecology of the Saginaw Bay Region. I have developed unique ways of using the WWW to present information about his research and interests in tropical rainforests. I designed many websites about tropical forests and other natural wonders, and recently won the National Audubon Society's "Best Website 2000" award. My recent publications include the NASA Fact Sheet on Tropical Deforestation, and paleoecological papers on the history of tropical rainforests. Prior to coming to Lyman Briggs College, I held a post-doctoral position with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama. My field research is based in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama.
