Giving

Each semester, my classmates and I continue to deepen our understanding of science and see things through a breadth of perspectives. As scholars, we know that science does not exist in a vacuum, and as Briggsies, we know that our success doesn’t either. We need alumni like you to support us as we follow in your footsteps.

THE POWER OF PHILANTHROPY

Our focus on students and their success is the heart of our work. Critical experiences like small courses and labs, undergraduate research, education abroad, and learning assistantships are possible because of the support of those—like you—who believe in what we do.

Your support helps us provide each Briggs student with a life-changing experience. Below are a sampling of giving options.

Make a one-time or reoccurring annual cash gift

Annual gifts are the lifeblood of Lyman Briggs College. Your support is combined with the generosity of others assists the college in purchasing lab equipment, providing scholarship for students, and funding research of our faculty.

Make a gift online or by mail

Double your gift

Some employers provide matching gifts that can double or even triple the value of a gift to Michigan State. Many companies will also match gifts made by employee spouses and retirees. To find out if your company has a matching gift policy, contact your Human Resources department.

Leave your legacy with a Planned Gift

Many of your Lyman Briggs peers are surprised and excited to realize they can make a meaningful donation to support the students following in their footsteps, even when they don’t consider themselves financial powerhouses. There are simple, sometimes even free, ways to give back:

By adding a couple of sentences to one's will or trust, one can support students or programs that enhance the Briggs experience.

Another option is to complete a simple form and make LBC a whole or partial beneficiary of one's retirement account.

Establish a commitment of cash or other assets

As Briggsies reflect back on successful careers, many are motivated to show their support through significant gifts of cash, stock, and tangible personal property. These gifts often establish endowments that are named by donors and support causes and priorities most important to them.
